FAQs
What is an eSIM?
An eSIM plan is a digital SIM that can be downloaded onto your device.
Instead of inserting a physical SIM card, you activate the plan by downloading it to your phone.
It works the same way as a traditional SIM but without the plastic card.
What is a travel eSIM?
A travel eSIM is an eSIM plan designed specifically for short-term international trips. Instead of buying a physical SIM at the airport, you download a mobile data plan directly to your phone before or during your trip.
It allows you to access data on local mobile networks without changing your primary SIM card.

Will an eSIM work on my phone?
Most modern smartphones support eSIMs.
To check, on your phone go to Settings → Mobile Data → Add eSIM.
If you see the option, your device is compatible with eSIMs.
Now you just need to check if your phone is carrier locked. A carrier lock is a restriction on a phone that ties it to a specific service provider. This might be the case if your phone is on contract.
For iPhones, go to Settings > General > About > Network Provider Lock and look for “No SIM restrictions”.
For Android, go to Settings > Connections > Mobile networks > Network operators and try to manually select a network. If you can only see one, it is likely locked.
Alternatively, you can try swapping out the SIM card for one on a different network. If you can still make calls and get online, your phone isn’t carrier locked.
Can I keep using my regular number?
Yes. Most modern smartphones allow Dual SIM functionality.
You can:
- Use your home SIM for calls & SMS
- Use your travel eSIM for mobile data
This avoids roaming charges while staying reachable.
Will a travel eSIM give me a local phone number?
Most travel eSIMs are data-only, meaning:
- You get mobile internet
- You typically do NOT get a local phone number
You can still use apps like WhatsApp, FaceTime, Telegram, or Zoom for calls and messages.
Is a travel eSIM cheaper than roaming?
Almost always.
Traditional roaming from your home carrier can be very expensive. Travel eSIM plans often cost:
- A fraction of daily roaming fees
- Much less than pay-per-MB charges
Check your regular SIM contract to compare roaming costs compared to our eSIMs.
What happens if I run out of data?
If you run out of data, you can purchase a top-up or buy a new eSIM plan.
When does the plan start?
Your eSIM plan starts when you first connect in your destination country.
You can safely install your eSIM before departure.
You need to have an active internet connection to install the eSIM, so it’s best to install before you travel or using Wi-Fi.
